Collection Instructions
Note: patient name and time of collection must be visible on timed collection tubes for testing.
1. Patient should be directed to fast overnight or for at least 8 hours. 2. Collect fasting sample: 2 mL sodium fluoride whole blood. Clearly label tube with time of collection and apply fluorescent timed collection label. Refrigerate. 3. Administer specified amount of glucose (glucola or other equivalent). 4. Collect 2 mL sodium fluoride whole blood at timed intervals of 1 hour, 2 hours, and 3 hours after administration of glucose source. Clearly label tube with time of collection and apply fluorescent timed collection label. Refrigerate. 5. Submit fasting, 1 hour, 2 hours, and 3 hours specimens rubber banded together. Refrigerate.
Note: For Pediatric patients, glucose dose is 1.75 grams glucose per kg body weight (0.8 grams glucose per pound) up to a maximum dose of 75 grams.
