Collection Instructions
Note: patient name and time of collection must be visible on timed collection tubes for testing
1. Patient should be directed to fast overnight or for at least 8 hours. 2. Collect fasting sample: 2 mL sodium fluoride whole blood. Clearly label tube with time of collection and apply fluorescent timed collection label. Refrigerate. 3. Administer specified amount of glucose (glucola or other equivalent). 4. Collect 2 mL sodium fluoride whole blood at timed intervals of 30 minutes and 1 hour after administration of glucose source. Clearly label tube with time of collection and apply fluorescent timed collection label. Refrigerate. 5. Submit fasting, 30 minute and 1 hour specimen rubber banded together. Refrigerate. Note: For Pediatric patients, glucose dose is 1.75 grams glucose per kg body weight (0.8 grams per pound), up to a maximum of 75 grams glucose.
