Collection Instructions
Vaginal swab specimens using Roche COBAS dual-swab kit. Do not pre-wet the swab before collection. 1. Hold the woven swab (large white) with the score line above your hand and insert the swab about 5cm (2in) into the vaginal opening. 2. Gently turn the swab for about 30 seconds while rubbing swab against the walls of the vagina. 3. Withdraw the swab carefully. Do not let the swab touch any surface before placing it into the collection tube. 4. Remove cap from collection tube. 5. Lower the swab into the collection tube until the score line is at the tube rim. 6. Leverage the swab shaft against the tube rim to break the shaft at the score line. 7. Tightly recap the collection tube submit the sample to the laboratory room temperature or refrigerated.
Alternative Specimen
Cutaneous and/or anogential lesions: Clinician-collected swab specimens in viral transport media (vtm), eswab, Roche dual swab, or aptima multitest swab. Indicate source of sample on requisition.
