HBV DNA

Methodology

Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) by Roche COBAS 6800/8800 system

Rejection Criteria

Heparin plasma
Samples received in frozen PPT (plasma separator) tube

Reference Range(s)

LIMIT OF QUANTITATION: 10-1,000,000,000 IU/ML

Specimen Requirements

Preferred Specimen

EDTA (lavender top) tube

Minimum Volume

2 mL plasma or serum

Sample Stability

1 day room temperature
6 days refrigerated br> 12 weeks frozen

Transport Temperature

Refrigerated

Collection Instructions

3 mL EDTA plasma. Centrifuge sample and separate plasma
from cells within 24 hours of collection. Transfer plasma
to a polypropylene transport tube. Clearly label tube as
EDTA plasma. Refrigerate. When multiple tests are ordered,
submit separate tube for this test.

Alternative Specimen

3 mL serum. Allow SST to clot in an upright position for at least 30 minutes, then centrifuge sample within 24 hours of collection. Transfer serum to a polypropylene transport tube. Clearly label tube as serum from a serum separator tube. Refrigerate. 3 mL plasma from a PPT (plasma separator) tube. Centrifuge sample and separate plasma from cells within 24 hours of collection. Transfer plasma to a polypropylene transport tube. Clearly label tube as EDTA plasma. Refrigerate. Note: if the sample was initially transported in the PPT tube following centrifugation, the sample must be re-centrifuged at 600 x g for 5 minutes prior to pour-off/aliquoting. when multiple tests are ordered, submit separate tube for this test.
